Caitlin Clark explains ear pain that forced her to exit game vs Liberty
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have had a tough schedule to start the 2024 WNBA season. They’ve played 11 games since May 14, going against physical and more experienced teams, boasting a 2-9 record after those matchups.
On Sunday, Clark exited the New York Liberty game for an apparent ear injury. Initially, she headed to the locker room while the game was still on but rejoined her teammates with three minutes left on the clock.
Clark spoke today about this injury, refusing to elaborate on what bothered her during the Liberty game but admitting that she’s good to go against the Washington Mystics.
“Honestly, I don’t really know. I don’t wanna explain it, it’d probably be pretty gross, but no, I feel fine. I can’t hear great out of one of my ears,” Clark told reporters.
It was odd to watch since the injury report didn’t suggest she was bothered by anything linked to her ear. That was the second leg of a back-to-back for the Fever, who escaped with a win against the Chicago Sky on Saturday but were absolutely dominated by the Liberty on Sunday.
Caitlin Clark only posted three points and five assists during that game, where her squad lost 104-68 to the 2023 WNBA Finals runners-up.

While her teammates must step up to help Clark win games for the Fever, NBA legend Magic Johnson believes they must improve in one aspect of the game. Even though it’s not as glamorous as other factors, the five-time NBA champion said Clark shouldn’t fight every battle alone, more so considering she has a target on her back.
“Now, Caitlin, her teammates got to come to her defence. You cannot allow her to have to fight every battle, right? But we have to understand that both Caitlin, Angel and Brink, who plays for my Sparks, they made the WNBA better, and they are going to be tested by these incredible women who have been in the league for a long time,” Johnson told Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday. This has been a common topic of discussion around the WNBA world, and other legends like Reggie Miller urged the Fever to try to land an enforcer to protect Caitlin Clark from the ‘attacks’ of opponents.
The 2024 season has been tough for this team, not only for all the games they’ve played in less than a month but also the battles they’ve had on the court.
