Jake Paul and Mike Tyson‘s date with destiny in the boxing ring continues to edge closer and closer and the two explosive personalities have renewed their assault on each other with words as the 58-year-old called the 27-year-old “fat”, leading to Paul to finally respond.

Their professionally sanctioned fight at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, just down the road from Dallas, will take place on July 20 and will see Paul finally step up from the cruiserweight category to Tyson’s backyard: heavyweight.

“I don’t know if he’s in his prime, he’s fat,” Tyson, the ex-WBC champion, said. “He should be lean and mean, he’s fat and funky. I saw him with his shirt off the other day, he’s fat!”

So as the young American piles on the pounds to make the cut, he was told he looks like he’s put on some weight and Paul admitted it’s all for a reason really as he moves on up to 230lbs, previously coming in at 200lbs.

“Yeah, there’s definitely slightly more power,” Paul told TMZ Sports. “But, I think the biggest thing is inside fighting and clinches, not getting pushed around by some of these heavier heavyweights.

“But definitely when I’m jogging, I’m so much slower. I feel like a rhino or something – it’s definitely a lot harder to jog.”

Paul knows he likely won’t have the edge on talent against Mike Tyson, who is regarded as one of the greatest fighters ever and sits at the same table as the iconic Muhammad Ali, but he is planning to use his youth.

In fact, he’s drawing inspiration from Ancient Roman training methods by the sounds of it as they used to use heavier swords so that in real combat, their swings would be even sharper and faster.

This is a philosophy Paul is subscribing to before he fights someone who, whilst 30 years older, is still very much an opponent to fear.

I’m only growing,” Paul told his BS Podcast. “I think I’ll get up to 240 and probably cut down so I’m like way faster.

“But if I’m training for this camp – and camp hasn’t started – but if I’m training in this camp at 240 and then I cut down to 220 it’s basically like I had a 20lbs weight vest on for the whole entire camp.

“So my muscles are going to be so much stronger and that speed will come through.”
