A JEOPARDY! contestant has struck a minor chord with viewers after mistaking a photo of famed rapper Mos Def as social media personality DJ Khaled.

The photo clue on Wednesday’s Jeopardy! episode was worth $1200 under the “Music Collabs” category.

The photo clue asked the players to name 'this rapper, also known as Yasiin Bey'

Ken Jennings read, “1990s hip-hop duo, Black Star, was a collaboration between Talib Kweli & this rapper, also known as Yasiin Bey.”

The clue displayed a picture of Mos Def performing on stage.

Jennifer Quail responded with a cringe expression and an unsure “DJ Khalid?”

Opponent Brandon Blackwell, a Chaser of The Chase, swept in to correctly answer it.

‘I KNOW SHE DID NOT’

Fans were left dumbfounded on social media since the rappers are different musically and do not look alike.

“I know she did not just call Mos Def “DJ Khalid” 😩😩#jeopardy,” one X user wrote.

“Wait, someone said DJ Khaled instead of Mos Def? Lolzzzzz,” wrote another.

“A lady on Jeopardy thought a picture of Mos Def was DJ Khaled,” wrote a third.

“This lady on Jeopardy thought mos def was DJ Khalid. Why even press the button if you’re that unsure?” wrote a fourth.

“Not sure Mos Def has ever been confused with DJ Khaled before tonight’s #Jeopardy episode,” wrote a fifth.

“Still disgusted that she called Mos Def… DJ KHALED” wrote a sixth.

“That’ll make the next compilation of Black Jeopardy Misses for sure,” wrote one more.

That said, Jennifer upstaged her opponents in the end, winning the Jeopardy! Invitational match with the sole get on Final Jeopardy.

WHAT IS: BLIND SPOT?

Jeopardy! contestants have faced other surprising challenges related to Black culture.

Last year, during a High School Reunion Tournament, a participant fumbled a Daily Double clue related to the Green Book, mistakenly calling it the “Black Book.”

In another instance, contestants drew blanks on Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

And a Final Jeopardy clue about Nobel Peace Prize winners from South Africa resulted in answers like “Kissinger,” “Merkel” and “Obama.”

Critics have pointed out a trend on Jeopardy! where seemingly obscure information is favored over questions related to Black history.

Historian Michael Harriot went viral on X by writing: “Jeopardy be like: ‘Host: The 2nd Earl of Winchester wrote this 1887 symphony about the tributary to the 42nd-largest river in Obscuristan. ‘Contestant: What is ‘Aksjducpïsudintal in A Minor?’”

“I’ll take History for $100.’ ‘Host: Name a black person who did anything,’” continued the tweet “Contestant: [silence].”

WHAT IS: THE JIT?

The JIT is a new annual tournament airing from March 20 until early April.

Unlike other tournaments this season, producers opened the floodgates to 27 iconic older champions, recent legends, and even some Chasers.

The winner of the ongoing JIT gets a $100,000 prize and an invitation to compete in May’s Jeopardy! Masters tournament.

There will be nine quarterfinal games, three semifinals, and a best-of-four final.

This means the legendary player who notches two final games wins the title.

The now-annual throwdown will decide one of the six spots in Masters, with the first three going to last season’s finalists – Matt Amodio, winner James, and Mattea Roach.

The other Masters slots go to Yogesh Raut for winning the 2024 Tournament of Champions and a still-unannounced Producer’s Pick.

After JIT, regular episodes resume for the first time this season either between April 8 and April 10.
