Caitlin Clark responds to Kate Martin making her feelings clear on former Iowa teammate
Former Iowa basketball stars Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark shared a warm embrace on Instagram even as the pair has grown apart in their professional career journeys
Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark was heavily featured in her former Iowa teammate’s Kate Martin 2024 Instagram dump earlier this week.
“I’d go everywhere with these folks, including into year ‘25,” Martin captioned the post, receiving over 140,000 likes. Clark had the most liked comment, posting “Love.”
The pair were teammates for four seasons at Iowa, where they reached four NCAA tournaments and a pair of national championship games. Martin’s performance in the 2024 tournament helped improve her draft stock: The Las Vegas Aces selected her with the 18th pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
While initially in the Aces’s rotation due to a slew of injuries, Martin eventually found herself on the outside looking in come playoff time. She finished the year averaging 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds a contest.
The Aces chose not to protect her ahead of the league’s recent expansion draft and the Golden State Valkyries selected Martin for the 2025 campaign.
She credits her experience playing in big and in front of a slew of celebrities at Iowa — many of whom were in attendance to see Clark — with helping her block out pressure at the professional level.
“Our attention and the following at Iowa the last couple of years was at a pinnacle — most viewed game, we were a part of a lot of those,” Martin said during the 2024 WNBA Playoffs.

“And so I think just having that experience, I mean, we also had very famous people sitting courtside…I still am in awe whenever I see Steph Curry sitting courtside, or Lebron James, or anybody sitting courtside,” she continued.
“Like, that’s super cool. But, I’m glad that I got to experience that while I was in college as well. Because it’s been a smooth transition.”The pair have remained good friends – Martin and Clark shared a big hug when the Aces met the Fever during the 2024 WNBA Regular season.
Clark comments on a fair share of Martin’s Instagram posts, too. After graduating, Martin posted some words for the incoming Iowa team.
“I keep thinking, like, why not just go all in? [In] our first Final Four, we had the mantra like, ‘Why not us?’ Why not show up every single day and work your a– off and see what can happen?” Clark commented: “Gonna run thru a brick wall.”
