Kim Kardashian hasn’t personally commented on Taylor Swift’s two new songs seemingly about her, “thanK you aIMee” and “Cassandra.” Sources close to her spoke about her thoughts though, telling People and Entertainment Tonight that Kardashian doesn’t get why Swift is still bothered by their 2016 drama.
A source told People that Kardashian is “over it and thinks Taylor should move on. [She] doesn’t get why [Swift] keeps harping on it. It’s been literally years.”
Kardashian has never publicly apologized for what went down with Swift in summer 2016. Back then, Kardashian released clips on Snapchat of the call her ex-husband Kanye West had with Swift about his controversial “Famous” lyrics. Swift claimed she hadn’t approved West’s “I made that bitch famous” line. Kardashian’s excerpts made it look like she did. A full video of the call, released in 2020, ultimately revealed that there was more to the story.
Kardashian doubled down on her position after the full video’s release. She wrote on X, then known as Twitter, “To be clear, the only issue I ever had around the situation was that Taylor lied through her publicist who stated that ‘Kanye never called to ask for permission…’ They clearly spoke so I let you all see that. Nobody ever denied the word ‘bitch’ was used without her permission. In her statement when her team said she ‘declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message.’ The lie was never about the word bitch, It was always whether there was a call or not and the tone of the conversation.”
Swift’s publicist, Tree Paine, hit back, pointing out that “when you take parts out, that’s editing.” Kardashian did not respond further.
Fast-forward to 2024, and it would appear that Swift is still dealing with the repercussions of her subsequent fall from grace. The singer told Time in December 2023, “Make no mistake—my career was taken away from me. You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
