If there’s one thing about Kim Kardashian, she’s not about to sit in the same hairstyle for more than a beat. She’s given us slicked-back buns, fluffy ’70s Farrah Fawcett hair, pink bixie crops, fantasy lengths, honey highlights and Pammy updos. She famously bleached her hair to Marilyn blonde in a 14-hour stint with her long-time hair stylist, Chris Appleton, before attending 2022’s Met Gala (a risky strategy for such a dramatic colour switch) – and she served up a loose half-way plait at this year’s Met. But, her latest style might just win for most creativity.
The SKIMS founder uploaded a picture of her (currently icy) strands, woven into a basket pattern in a caption-less photo that she posted to her Instagram. In the pic, which sees Kim squatting down wearing nude-coloured leggings and a matching mesh top, her hair has been carefully latticed. The ends have been divided (into around four sections) and finished off as a braid.
We guess it taps into the cottagecore movement that’s back again for summer 2024? Gingham sundresses and strawberry-girl pink and red tones have returned once again for wholesome sunshine vibes. But so far, we’ve not seen anyone recreate the woven texture of a giant picnic basket with their hair.
The comments section was divided, with some drawing comparisons to the powdered wigs worn by America’s founding fathers. One of the top liked comments asked “what in the constitution is going on here?” while another commenter wrote: “Kim Kardashian is getting ready to write the declaration of independence”. One simply said: “Kim babes ….. this ain’t it,” and another wrote “Kim Kargaryen” referencing the elaborate hairstyles worn by Game of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen. But, others have praised her ingenuity – asking, “Why is she not allowed to play around in her creativity? Y’all love trying to box people in.”
We’re still on the fence about the look itself, but we’re here for all the experimenting.
