A potential landing spot has reportedly emerged for Bill Belichick following his departure from the New England Patriots.

Belichick will still be in high demand this offseason, despite his failure in New England over the past few years, after mutually agreeing to part ways with the team. And one franchise is already thought to be a frontrunner in such regard.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Atlanta Falcons could be an option for the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach.

“Jerod Mayo is the top in-house candidate, viewed for years as a possible successor. Mike Vrabel is also available,” Rapoport wrote. “For Belichick, #Falcons may be an option.”

Various NFL insiders were reporting that a team in the NFC South was keeping tabs on Bill over the past few weeks. It appears they were referring to the Falcons.

“Falcons owner Arthur Blank has taken some big swings at other high-profile head coaches in the past,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter also notes. “Blank once pursued, but didn’t land, Joe Gibbs. He once pursued, but didn’t land, Bill Parcells. Now the Falcons have a head coach opening, and Bill Belichick is a free agent.”

Of course, given the many vacancies around the NFL, Atlanta could have plenty of competition for the former New England HC. In any case, it’s going to be a really interesting offseason.
