Detroit Lions offensive lineman Taylor Decker explained his side of the story in Saturday’s controversial 20-19 road loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Jared Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown with 23 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to one. Rather than play for overtime, Dan Campbell called for a two-point conversion that appeared to be successful when Goff found Decker in the end zone.

However, Decker was penalized for being an ineligible man on the play. Detroit still went for two, but Goff’s pass attempt to James Mitchell fell incomplete. Dallas held on for a tight one-point win to keep their slim NFC East hopes alive.

Per Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit, Decker told reporters that he reported to the official. The star offensive tackle added that he wasn’t given an explanation on the penalty.

“I did exactly what coach told me to do…went to the ref…said report,” Decker said.

Speaking to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News after the game, head official Brad Allen claimed that Dan Skipper (No. 70) reported eligible, but that Decker (No. 68) failed to do so.

Regardless of if the rule was correctly enforced or not, the NFL has another officiating controversy on their hands.
