Liverpool have rejected an offer before deadline day

Liverpool’s transfer business has ramped up with just hours remaining in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool fans have been forced to remain patient this summer during Arne Slot’s first transfer window at the club after replacing Jurgen Klopp but the club have sprung into life as deadline day approaches.

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili became Slot’s first official signing after Liverpool agreed a package worth £30m to sign the Georgia international who will remain at the La Liga side until 2025 at least.

Then, out of nowhere, Liverpool intensified their interest in Juventus forward Federico Chiesa and a cut-price deal was sealed not even 24 hours later with the forward penning a four-year deal on Merseyside.

More business before Friday’s deadline has not been ruled out and it’s since emerged Liverpool have rejected a swap deal involving a fellow Premier League side.

The Athletic revealed Nottingham Forest proposed a cash plus player offer for backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher which was swiftly turned down by the Merseyside club.

Kelleher made 26 appearances for the club last season and has stated his desire to become a first-choice goalkeeper but it’s reported Forest’s offer that would have resulted in Matt Turner moving in the opposite direction fell way short of the club’s valuation.

Liverpool value Kelleher around the £25m to £30m mark and are not looking to sell their no.2 before the deadline.

Third-choice goalkeeper Adrian turned down the offer of a new contract this summer to join Real Betis with youngster Marcelo Pitaluga set to move to Scottish Championship side Livingston on loan.

Ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Turner was left out of Forest’s first two Premier League squads as he tries to secure an exit before the window slams shut but a move to Anfield doesn’t look likely to be revived.

Earlier this year, Kelleher expressed his desire to play regular first-team football at a Premier League side.

He told The Athletic: “It was my time to show the level I believe I can perform at and the level people at the club think I’m able to play at. I proved that I’m good enough to play in the Premier League – I’m comfortable there.

“Playing against Man City at home (the 1-1 draw at Anfield in March) was another big one for me with the rivalry between us. You’re not going to play in a more high-profile game than that in world football and I thought I did really well. You think, ‘Yeah, I’m capable of doing this every week at a high level’. I got the taste for it and I want to do it all the time. My main ambition is to be a No.1.”
