‘Long way to go’: Rosie Motene slams Chris Brown’s SA support (PO)

Veteran actress Rosie Motene – a GBV survivor – has called out South Africans who have supported Chris Brown’s concerts.

Actress  Rosie Motene is one of the few celebrities speaking out against Chris Brown’s controversial South African performances.

The veteran star – who is a gender-based violence (GBV) survivor questioned why the US singer was permitted into the country.

Chris – who has a long history of domestic violence – is performing just days after the 16 Days of Activism campaign comes to an end.

The shows will take place on 14 and 15 December at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

ROSIE MOTENE SLAMS CHRIS BROWN CONCERT

In an Instagram post, Rosie Motense shared an image of a bruised and battered Rihanna. The picture dates back to 2009 when Chris Brown was arrested for his brutal attack on his then-girlfriend.

Although the incident took place 15 years ago, the singer has repeatedly made headlines over his angry outbursts, physical violence, and even allegations of sexual assault.

According to his ex, Karrueche Tran who filed a restraining order against him, Chris also threatened to kill her in several graphic texts.

In the Instagram caption, Rosie thanked anti-GBV NGO Women For Change for kickstarting a petition to cancel Chris Brown’s shows, based on his history of violence.

She posted, “Respect to all who see and understand the glaring issues that we face in our country and who understand the intersectional approaches that are needed to bring an end to GBV.

She added: “We have a long way to go…”

SURVIVING GBV

Sadly, Rosie Motene is one of many South African women who have experienced GBV.

According to Sunday World, the actress admitted to enduring sexual abuse whilst in university. She also alleges a prominent film director sexually harassed her.

She told the publication: “I came out about my abuse nine years after the incident happened.

“Why I came out and joined Powa was to understand why for many years, I blamed myself.”

She added: “I came from a very privileged background, and I went to private schools – but I wasn’t educated on the fundamental principles of abuse.”
