She let everyone know the price it would take for her to “jump in the portal”

Flau'jae Johnson raised doubts about her loyalty to Kim Mulkey's...

With Angel Reese moving onto the WNBA, the next women’s basketball star in line to command the respect, attention and NIL windfall that comes with success at LSU is Flau’jae Johnson. That’s what Kim Mulkey thought, anyway, until her star hooper, who is also a rapper, posted a line from her song naming exactly how much money it would take for her to transfer.

As the heir to the Bayou throne, Johnson knows her worth. A huge part of the Tigers’ 2023 NCAA Championship team, she stepped up even more in 2024.

She overtook Reese as LSU’s top scorer during the NCAA Tournament, leading the team in points in three of four elimination games while also playing great defense on Caitlin Clark in their eventual defeat to Iowa. She has all the tools to take the SEC by storm again next season alongside Mikaylah Williams and Aneesah Morrow

Flau’jae Johnson names her price for a transfer

The good news for LSU head coach Kim Mulkey is that it will take a pretty penny to pry her away from Baton Rouge, if her lyrics are to be believed:

They lovin’ the way that I’m ballin’

You give me 10 mil, imma jump in the portal

Flau’jae Johnson NIL earnings

Big 4” already makes a killing from her Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) thanks to her enormous personality on and off the court.

With Reese and Clark moving on to the WNBA, Johnson is the top earner among women’s college basketball players, according to On3’s NIL 100 list. She and fellow Tiger Olivia Dunne are the only female athletes in the top 25, with Johnson’s $1.2 million NIL valuation ranking 14th overall. She rakes in more than returning stars like UConn’s Paige Bueckers and USC’s JuJu Watkins.

Flau’jae’s music career

Her earning potential is elevated by her burgeoning success as a rapper. Simply known as Flau’jae, she has over 175,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, while her most popular song “Big 4” has over 1.4 million views on YouTube. Collaborations with NLE Choppa, Lil Boosie and Roy Woods point to her growing influence as an artist.

Put it all together and you can understand how Flau’jae reached the figure of $10 million for her to transfer. For all her flaws, Mulkey proved with Angel Reese that she will let superstars be themselves off the court as long as they stay committed on it.

As a new era of visibility begins in women’s college basketball, Johnson is already putting her patience to the test.
