Bill Belichick’s 24-year reign as New England Patriots head coach and de-facto general manager included six Super Bowls and nine AFC titles, but it did not end well and it may end the career of another player with the team.

In the midst of that campaign, starting quarterback Mac Jones was benched on multiple occasions as his struggles mounted during the season.

This past season was supposed to be a career resurgence after a down campaign in 2022 but it was more of the same problems.

Now, Jones is predicted to get a “career reset” if he leaves New England to join a team in the NFC.

According to Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine, Jones should take his talents to the Los Angeles Rams because he needs “a solid organization with a strong coach and an appealing backup job.”

He adds that head coach Sean McVay “has a way of getting the best out of his quarterbacks,” while noting Baker Mayfield turned a brief stint with the Rams into a starting job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season.

Jones could very well see the same type of thing by playing with that coaching staff at SoFi Stadium which would give him a much-needed change of scenery.

Last season, Jones was benched for good on Nov. 26th in a game against the New York Giants after he completed 12-of-21 passes for 89 yards and two interceptions. Jones ended the season as an inactive player/third quarterback in case of emergency.

Jones played well as a rookie under then-coordinator McDaniels, then regressed in 2022 under Belichick’s new staff.

Jones appeared in 11 games during the 2023 season, completing 224 of 345 pass attempts (64.9 percent) for 2,120 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while adding 96 rushing yards on 26 carries.
