Manchester City didn’t spend big in the summer but could splash the cash when the January window rolls around.
Manchester City are set to hand Pep Guardiola a huge transfer warchest in January should he want to strengthen his squad.
After winning an unprecedented fourth Premier League title in a row last season, City only spent £21 million in the summer window – snapping up winger Savinho from sister club Troyes following an impressive loan spell with Girona.
They then brought back former captain Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer after a year at Barcelona in what has been widely hailed as an excellent bit of business.
Academy products Rico Lewis and James McAtee are expected to feature more prominently, as was Oscar Bobb until an unfortunate fractured leg on the eve of the season put him on the sidelines for around four months.
City did make around £160 million from sales, the majority of which came from Julian Alvarez’s £81.5 million switch to Atletico Madrid.

The club did look at replacing him with a forward to deputise for Erling Haaland but ultimately stuck with their available options.
But according to The Sun, City will have funds to spend in January if Guardiola wants new recruits.
£100 million will be allocated to the transfer budget for reinforcements, though City’s two top targets are not expected to be on the market.
City have been heavily linked with Germany pair Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, feeling as though the two could add a new dimension to an already excellent side.

Wirtz won the Bundesliga Player of the Season last term after helping Bayer Leverkusen to an undefeated domestic double under Xabi Alonso.
Compatriot Musiala, who played for England at youth level before switching to Germany, has cemented himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the world at just 21 after a series of excellent displays for Bayern Munich.
His contract is due to expire in 2026 and no doubt a slew of leading clubs will be closely monitoring his situation.
Former teammate Joshua Zirkzee has been trying to convince him to join him at Manchester United, though his efforts aren’t quite working at present.
