Meghan Markle has witnessed her popularity drop dramatically since she left the Royal Family in 2020 – and it might be due to one key reason.
The Duchess of Sussex married into the Firm in 2018 after her lavish wedding to Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
But their sensational departure and move to the US, along with the bombshell claims they’ve made over the year, did not work in their favour.
The couple have consistently ranked lower than most members of the Royal Family in various polls since then.
According to one royal expert, this might be down to one of their strategies which went against one mantra used by most royals and first attributed to the late Queen Mother – “Never complain, never explain”.

The Duchess has mentioned several times that one of her main struggles while still working for the Firm was to remain silent at specific times and not be able to express herself and “tell her story”.
Royal expert Victoria Arbiter previously suggested that Meghan’s approach to how she ended up responding to the media and claims made against them, which differed greatly from the Queen’s mother’s stance, would cause her problems.
She told Nine News Australia in 2019, before the Sussexes left the Firm: “I think really she [Meghan] is doing incredibly well.
“It’s very difficult when you come from a celebrity background where a publicist can stand up for you or come out and say ‘no, that report is categorically untrue.’

“But, generally speaking, members of the public follow the Queen Mother’s well-worn mantra: ‘Never complain, never explain.’ And so you have to sit back while the world’s media and social media just comment.”
A year later the Sussexes moved to the US and since then, they’ve ended up making a series of bombshell claims about their life and treatment within the Firm, attacking several senior royals.
However, mostly none of their claims have been commented on by the Royal Family, who still use their “business as usual” approach amid the ongoing royal feud.
