A classic Michael Jordan commercial was revisited in 2024 in a new way. The 2008 Nike commercial starring His Airness was titled “Maybe It’s My Fault.” It’s Jordan’s opening line as he narrates a list of ‘maybes’ in a typical overcoming setbacks aesthetic. This entire scenario has now been animated and still keeps that inspiring factor intact.

Marcus Jordan has seen the animated recreation of his father’s commercial. He reshared the post captioned, “’Maybe It’s My Fault’ Nike x Jordan commercial. 2024 ANIMATED REMAKE,” on his Instagram Stories and added a glowing review. “HAHAHA THIS IS KINDA DOPE.”

This is one of the most famous Nike commercials in history. A retired Michael Jordan was redefining his career both as an NBA team owner and also in this commercial. It seemed to dispel misconceptions about athletes. Unlike the original, the animated Black Cat says, “Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe I led you to believe it was easy when it wasn’t. Maybe I made you think my highlights started at the free throw line, and not in the gym.”

Through a montage of MJ highlights, also animated, he further says, “Maybe it’s my fault that you didn’t see that failure gave me strength. That my pain was my motivation. Maybe I led you to believe that basketball was a God-given gift and not something I worked for every single day of my life. Maybe I destroyed the game…”

The animated version showed different versions of the Jumpman’s Chicago Bulls jerseys too. He also referenced his brief baseball stint before the animated commercial ends with him stepping out of his ‘GOAT’ chair between his six championship trophies as he said, “or maybe you’re just making excuses.” The original commercial had the same moving narration to a different montage.

It has a sentimental, nostalgic vibe, moving from the iconic MJ statue outside the United Center to his old gym, a list of his NBA records, his UNC jersey, and even his celebrated trophy room. It reveals that this narration was a pep talk MJ in the flesh was giving a team of youngsters aspiring to be like him. The clip concludes with the tagline, “Become Legendary.”

From living through his father’s career to launching his own version of Air Jordans through the Trophy Room, Marcus proved he’s a Nike loyalist. Apart from converting his girlfriend, Larsa Pippen to Nikes, he celebrated MJ Mondays on the Trophy Room Instagram page with a throwback to the famous Air Jordan Christmas commercial.
