The Indiana Fever were in a jovial mood on Wednesday, September 4, even before they secured their fifth straight win via a hard-fought victory against the Los Angeles Sparks at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. This was because of the fact that Christie Sides was named the WNBA Coach of the Month for August, which, incidentally, is the first time in Fever franchise history that a coach has earned this honor.

The team surprised Sides during their morning shootaround as they announced her incredible feat. They even gave her a cake to celebrate the momentous occasion.

As it turns out, however, Caitlin Clark, who herself bagged the Player of the Month title, had some not-so-pure intentions about the said cake.

As the entire team was celebrating Sides’ new award, the mics caught Clark hilariously demanding that the cake be smashed in her coach’s face.

Clark wasn’t captured in the three-second video above, but you can clearly hear her say, “Smash the cake in her face.”

Below is the clip in its entirety, which the Fever posted on X, formerly Twitter.

For what it’s worth, it doesn’t seem like anybody heard Clark’s instructions. Either that, or they all just decided to completely ignore it. Thankfully for Sides, she did not end up getting cake smashed in her face.

The celebrations continued for the Fever after their home victory against the Sparks, which came behind another amazing performance from Clark. The rookie sensation logged the second triple-double of her career after dropping 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the win.

Clark and Co. get a couple of days off before they return to action on Friday, September 5. They will look to keep their winning streak alive as they host the third-seeded Minnesota Lynx.
