The Romanian player, who has been an icon in the history of the  sport , made her decision known after facing a heavy defeat at the Transilvania tournament, where she failed to qualify for the final stages.

Halep, who is a two-time Grand Slam champion and one of the most recognized players on the circuit, expressed her gratitude to her fans, friends and family through an emotional message. In her words, she highlighted the importance of the unconditional support she received over the years and how it was fundamental to her career. “Thank you for your support throughout these years. It has been an honor to represent my country and world tennis. Now it is time to move on to new stages in my life,” Halep said in her official message.

However, the news doesn’t end there. Along with the announcement of her retirement, Halep surprised her fans even more with a personal announcement. The tennis player revealed that she and her husband, businessman Toni Iuruc, are expecting their first child. “I am excited about this new stage of my life. After so many victories and challenges in tennis, I am ready to face the new challenges that motherhood will bring. This is a very special moment for us,” shared the champion, visibly moved.
