FREE agent guard Patty Mills is joining the Miami Heat for the remainder of the season.

After being cut by the Atlanta Hawks earlier this year, Mills is now eligible for the Heat’s postseason roster.

Mills played 19 games with the Hawks this season before being waived, averaging 2.7 points, 0.7 assists, and 1.1 rebounds on 10.6 minutes.

The guard is a long-term NBA veteran, playing in his 15th season this year.

He was drafted in 2009 by the Portland Trail Blazers with a second round pick, but spent most of his career with the San Antonio Spurs.

Mills only played two years with the Trail Blazers before signing with the Spurs in 2012 as a free agent.

He spent 10 seasons in San Antonio, winning the NBA Championship in 2014.

The 35-year-old played with them until 2021 when he moved on to the Brooklyn Nets.

Mills played two years with the Nets before his stint with the Hawks this year.

He is on to his fifth career team with the Heat once he makes his debut.

Mills brings a lot of valuable experience to the heat roster, having played in 95 playoff games in his career.

He also ironically defeated the Heat in his 2014 NBA Finals win.

Mills isn’t the most prolific shooter in the league, but he is known to be a great teammate and leader everywhere he goes. He won the NBA’s Sportsmanship Award in 2022.

The Heat also signed veteran Delon Wright in the free agent buyout market to go along with the Mills signing.

Miami is 34-26 and seventh in the Eastern Conference, comfortably in a playoff spot.
