New Jenna Ortega Movie Blasted By Critics

It looks like the newest movie starring fan-favorite celebrity Jenna Ortega is being blasted by critics online.
Jenna Ortega’s career as a child actor paved the way for roles in such films as X and Studio 666. It was then the Netflix series Wednesday and the newest Scream films that brought her even more newfound popularity. Now with roles in upcoming projects like Beetlejuice 2, it might be surprising to know the latest Jenna Ortega movie is being blasted by critics.

The thriller drama, released by Lionsgate in January 2024, has been eagerly awaited by fans of Ortega. Of course, the controversial premise kept other fans rather hesitant. Now, as revealed via Rotten Tomatoes, it looks like this feature has premiered with a rotten rating on the Tomatometer.

As of this writing, the Jenna Ortega film actually has a 37% critical rating from critics. Additionally, the film is also facing backlash on social media from those who’ve seen it. For someone who has had their fair share of wins in recent history, it looks like Miller’s Girl is not one of them.

Here are some of the tweets that were shared, with many upset viewers having felt the film was not an appropriate project for Ortega:

For those unaware, the film has been given the brief – yet revealing – synopsis:

“A creative writing assignment yields complex results between a teacher and his talented student.”

In addition to Scream star Jenna Ortega as Cairo Sweet, the film stars Martin Freeman as Jonathan Miller, Gideon Adlon as Winnie, Bashir Salahuddin as Boris Fillmore, Dagmara Domińczyk as Beatrice, and Christine Adams.

Jade Halley Bartlett directed the film from a screenplay she wrote several years ago. It was a spec script acquired by Seth Rogen’s company Point Grey Pictures in 2016. He produced the film along with Josh Fagen, Evan Goldberg, Mary-Margaret Kunze, and James Weaver.

The new film Miller’s Girl is currently available to see in theaters. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Miller’s Girl and its star, Jenna Ortega, as we have them.
