Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots helmets shown on field.
The Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots are reportedly discussing a massive trade, and the news has sent social media into quite the frenzy.

Speaking on the “Mackey and Judd” podcast (h/t Dakota Randall of Pro Football Network), Darren Wolfson of KSTP-TV in St. Paul, Minnesota reported that the Vikings have talked to the Patriots about potentially trading up for the No.3 selection:

“Here’s what I was told: Down in Mobile, there was a seed planted with New England by the Vikings. Now, I’m not suggesting talks have advanced — it was one of those, ‘Hey, we’ll circle back to you (at the NFL Combine) — but that some sort of seed was planted in terms of, ‘Hey, is there even any interest on your front to move off that No. 3 pick?’…

I’m not suggesting it’s going to get done…I’m just saying, I was led to believe that at least some sort of seed was planted in Mobile.”

Here’s how fans on X/Twitter reacted to the fascinating rumor…

If Minnesota were to trade up into the top-three, they would most certainly take a quarterback. USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels are the top QB prospects in this draft, so Minnesota would presumably take whichever one of those three remained.

Of course, the Vikings would have to be pay a massive price to move up from the No. 11 spot to No. 3. If New England were to deal that pick, it would take them out of the running to take one of the big three QBs in this class.

Minnesota’s starting quarterback of the last six years, Kirk Cousins, is a pending free agent and seems poised to hit the open market. Cousins will be 36 next season, and he’s still recovering from surgery on a season-ending Achilles tear he suffered back in Week 8.

Free agency opens on Mar. 13, so the Vikings must decide quickly if they want to make an effort to retain Cousins or start afresh as the game’s most important position.
