The Kansas City Chiefs have finally done it. They have clinched the AFC West for the ninth straight season, but it did not come easy.

After establishing a 13-0 lead at halftime on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers, the defending Super Bowl champions gave up consecutive touchdowns to open the second half. But in the fourth quarter, Matthew Wright proved clutch, making two field goals – including this last-second walkoff off the left upright for the division title:

There was much shock and elation at the outcome:

“Insane black magic wtf,” a fan wrote.

More of it can be seen below:

“The Chiefs had cooked well,” one applauded.
“You can’t make it up!” another reminded.
“MAHOMES JUST FINDS A WAY,” another praised.
There is still one more goal for the Chiefs, however: the AFC’s first seed and corresponding bye to the Divisional Round. Their quest for it begins on Sunday at the already-eliminated Cleveland Browns.

Can Chiefs be prevented from clinching AFC’s top seed? Analyzing remaining opponents’ chances
The first step towards attaining that top seed is the Cleveland Browns, who were eliminated from playoff contention after a loss at the Pittsburgh Steelers. While their offense has struggled, especially when Deshaun Watson was under center, they still boast sack machine Myles Garrett, who can post a threat to the offensive line as they protect Patrick Mahomes. There is also the threat posed by the secondary under Denzel Ward, who has been able to start all his games despite a concussion scare during the offseason.

Speaking of the Steelers, they are the penultimate opponents and also boast another monstrous sack machine in TJ Watt. They also have a decent offense orchestrated by a rejuvenated Russell Wilson, whose primary targets have been Pro Bowl favorite wideout George Pickens and tight end Pat Freiermuth.

In between those AFC North teams are the AFC South’s overlords, the Houston Texans of reigning Rookies of the Year CJ Stroud and Will Anderson. Well-armed on both sides of the ball, they have a fair shot at stealing a win.

The final opponent is the Denver Broncos, whom the Chiefs have already defeated. Bo Nix is a favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year, but he has also had his fair share of defeats. Both teams are also in the top 10 in fewest rushing yards allowed, which will make passing a top priority.
