When Caitlin Clark took the court against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, she hadn’t expected to shoot just 2 of 13 three-pointers. Clark known for her shooting from beyond the arc, stands second in the all-time three-point leader tally in a single season, just behind Sabrina Ionescu’s 128 record set in 2023. However, the Sun controlled Clark on Sunday which many opined was due to an eye injury she sustained against the third-seeded team.

Clark, by the end of the game, had a black patch under her right eye, which led to a growing concern among fans regarding her future in the WNBA playoffs. Hence, let’s take a look at the latest update.

The game between the Sun and the Fever had barely started when Clark tried to give a pass to Aliyah Boston. While Boston did receive the ball, the Sun guard DiJonai Carrington, in an attempt to block her, jumped in the air and mistakenly poked her finger in Clark’s right eye. The AP ROTY immediately fell to the ground and was given a few seconds to recover from the unexpected injury. While a foul wasn’t called, Clark continued plying her trade for the team. And as mentioned by the end of the game she had a black patch under her eye.

However, the Fever hasn’t listed Clark on the injury list as of now. And it is expected that she will take the court against the Sun during game 2 on Tuesday. Furthermore, what increases her chances of participating in the next game is her dedication to the sport. “I look really soft,” Clark had opined of herself when she had sustained a slight ankle twist against the Atlanta Dream in August.

During that game, the 22-year-old had walked off the court on her own and got her ankle taped while Erica Wheeler subbed for her. But by the start of the second quarter, the Iowa-alum was all hail and hearty. Not even a limp in sight. This incident showed Clark’s resilience in the face of injury and since she did not even leave the court after the eye-poke, hopefully, she will not shy away from contributing in the next game. However, the Sun surely seems to have found a way to control Clark.

It was in late August that Clark had taken the court against the Sun for the last time in the regular season. During that game, Clark scored 3 out of 12 three-pointers which helped her eclipse Rhyne Howard’s record of most three-pointers by a rookie. Though the Des Moines-born had gone ahead of Howard, the message from the Sun’s camp was clear- Not to give Clark the opportunity to convert a shot into a three.

Hence, when Clark started the contest against the Sun on Sunday, they knew how to contain the former NCAA Queen from scoring from beyond the arc. And a lot of fans later mentioned that Clark could only score 2-out-13 threes since she had been hurt in the eye in the first quarter by Carrington. However, Clark denied this point of view.

According to her, she doesn’t “think it affected me.” And instead tried to point out that they played “a crappy game.” According to the highest assist maker of the season, she tried her best and got some good shots but unfortunately, they didn’t go as intended. Deflecting the question, Clark also stated that they had gotten a trail in all first three quarters which somewhat could have demotivated their spirit, and then the clock shot issue didn’t help either. Hopefully, for fans, Clark will be able to make a comeback soon in the next game.
