Only one player has a longer unbeaten run in the Premier League than Rodri.

City’s 4-0 win over Fulham on Saturday saw Rodri further entrench himself as the most important player in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side.

Indeed, City have lost on just three occasions this term, all of which came while the Spaniard was absent.

Rodri is on a British record 71-game unbeaten streak in all competitions without being on the losing side, with City’s penalty shootout loss against Real Madrid last month not counting towards official statistics.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League Rodri has not lost in 48 games.

Only three other players have achieved that feat – Kolo Toure (48), Thierry Henry (48) and Sol Campbell, with the latter having gone a record 56 games without losing in the competition.

Despite Rodri’s controlled, metronomic performances for City this term, he was not listed among the eight players shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Season award.

City teammates Phil Foden and Erling Haaland were among the nominees, as was Arsenal’s Declan Rice – who recently labelled Rodri as the best defensive midfielder in the world.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins completed the shortlist.

Guardiola noted Rodri’s snub after City dispatched Fulham in the lunchtime kick-off.

“He has been one of the best. Those nominated deserve it and others deserve it too,” said Guardiola. “The list is huge. What is important is he knows what we think about his importance and what a magnificent, extraordinary player he is. He should not be worried at all about that.”

City are just two wins away from claiming their fourth successive Premier League title, irrespective of how challengers Arsenal fare for the rest of the season.

Guardiola’s men visit Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening before a home game against West Ham United on the final day of the season.
