The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has moved from the college game to the WNBA. After facing off against each other at Iowa and LSU, they are now with the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky — meeting for the first time in their professional careers on Saturday.
Clark took quite a beating from Chicago, something that’s been common since entering the league. One came while Reese was on the bench but she was loving every second of it. After Clark seemingly got body checked, Reese jumped out of her chair and applauded the action.
Reese is always going to have her teammate’s back and support their actions. But given the history between her and Clark, the rivalry appears to be as strong as ever.
You can check out the full moment here.
Clark was interviewed in the middle of the game and was asked about the moment. She gave her thoughts on it, not believing it was a “basketball play.”
“It’s just not a basketball play,” Clark said during an in-game interview after the third quarter. “Gotta play through it. That’s what playing basketball is at this level.”
Not too long after, Reese was the one delivering the blows.
A shot was put up from the outside and Clark began to get around the rim for a potential rebound. Reese certainly met her there, with a tough box out. Reese then appears to elbow Clark and throw her down to the ground.
Reese once again loved the moment and had some choice words when running back to the other end of the court. There was even a staredown in the process.
Clark wound up getting the last laugh as Indiana secured their second win of the season. Their superstar finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and six assists — another solid stat line for the No. 1 overall pick despite shooting just four of 11.
As for Reese, she had a productive day on the glass with a game-high 13 rebounds. Eight points were put on the board as well but Reese struggled from the field, going two of nine.
We will not have to wait too long for another matchup between the two. Chicago will travel to Indiana on June 16 — the second of four total matchups. The rivalry between Clark and Reese may be reaching a new level in the WNBA with another players getting involved too.
