Blake Porter was awarded for his 94-foot putt on Monday, but his real prize came days later.
Texas Tech student Blake Porter thought he hit the jackpot after he sank a 94-foot putt in front of the crowd at a basketball game earlier this week.
After sinking the putt during his school’s game against rivals the University of Houston on Monday, Feb. 24, Porter celebrated by doing an airborne shoulder bump with Patrick Mahomes, who was seated courtside with his wife, Brittany.

Porter was awarded some Texas Tech swag, an iPad, and a cooler, but his big prize came on Thursday, Feb. 27 during an appearance on the Today show.
Cohost Carson Daly introduced a “special message” for Porter via video from Mahomes.
“What’s up, Blake?” said the star Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Texas Tech alum. “What an awesome moment it was the other night. I was so excited just to be a small part of it. I know you think you know what you won. But what you don’t know is Texas Tech athletics is going to be paying your tuition next fall.”
And that wasn’t all. “On top of that, Adidas and I are going to make you an honorary member of Team Mahomes.”
The former Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback launched the Adidas-sponsored 10-year partnership with the university in 2024 by signing six student-athletes at Texas Tech to NIL (name, image and likeness) deals– Micah Hudson (football), NiJaree Canady (softball), Jasmine Shavers (basketball), Matthew Comegys (golf), Sam Courtwright (soccer) and TJ Pompey (baseball).
“We’ll be sending a nice care package your way to support your golf game,” Mahomes added in his video message. “Congrats again and enjoy your time on the Today show.”
Today show cohost Savanah Guthrie gave her support, joking that Porter’s mother had to be the “happiest” about Mahomes’ big surprise, shouting, “No tuition next fall!”
