Two of the most anticipated pairings in the WNBA are making their debuts during the league’s preseason opener Friday night. The sensational Caitlin Clark and 2023 Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston will test their chemistry when the Indiana Fever take on the Dallas Wings. Rookie duo Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese play their first game in a Chicago Sky uniform for a matchup against the Minnesota Lynx.
However, fans will only be able to watch one of these matchups for free as the WNBA App is offering the Fever vs. Wings at no cost. Those who looked forward to watching Reese and Cardoso are unfortunately left on the sidelines, and they’re letting off some steam online.
“Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese are making their professional debuts in preseason and not one person thought it would be smart to broadcast it somewhere?!?!?!” Shannon G posted on X.
“Angel Reese has more followers than the WNBA, more followers than your fave that you’re pushing down our throats & y’all think her very active fan base doesn’t want to see her games?! This is what is wrong w/ the WNBA & the mainstream media you’re hellbent of pushing narratives,” HeirJames said after seeing an announcement from the WNBA about free streaming for the Fever game.
AJR says she’s tired of the “W” writing, “The WNBA is wild embarrassing. To not have Angel Reese and Kamila cordossa games on the league pass is insane. Angel Reese is one of the reasons why women’s basketball is getting so much attention but they made sure to put the white girl front and center.”
Kristia wrote, “Where is Angel Reese?! Don’t care! Where is Angel Reese?” when the WNBA posted a picture of Caitlin Clark ahead of Friday’s preseason opener.
“Because why the wnba only hyping up and streaming Catlin Clark game today and not Angel Reese and kamila cardoso who are also great players,” Dari wrote.
Domo is asking Reese to take action herself writing, “Angel Reese please go live on instagram and have one someone hold the phone so we can see the game.”
Reezy Sack is disappointed with this outcome posting, “Angel Reese is gonna put on a professional jersey for the first time and nobody is gonna be able to see it but the people in the building. That’s tight man great work.”
“We want to watch Angel Reese and kamilla, they have fan bases too (there’s even a story line there)Promote all the rookies(top 10), allow people to choose who they want to watch. Pushing one player isn’t the answer,” Boni wrote.
Even though fans can’t watch Cardoso and Reese for free, the WNBA only charges $3.99 to watch one out-of-market game and only $35 for the entire season.
The WNBA excused the lack of broadcast due to a conflict with Bally Sports, who is already covering the Minnesota Twins’ 11-game winning streak on Friday.
“Bally chose regular season MLB vs Pre Season WNBA,” Lex wrote.
Even though fans won’t be able to watch all their stars on Friday night, it’s still a huge moment for the league and the sport as the 2024 WNBA season kicks off.
