San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey won’t be touching the field again in 2024. The team has been eliminated from playoff contention, and he injured himself in a game against the Bills weeks ago.

The 49ers running back went down with a non-contact knee injury early in San Francisco’s 35-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey sustained a “potentially” season-ending PCL injury at the time.

This week, the 49ers star running back showed up to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital to brighten the faces of some children who had to spend the holidays in the hospital.

A video of Christian McCaffrey signing autographs at a local hospital surfaced, revealing that his PCL injury may be more severe than we knew about.

According to popular sports doctor Jeff Mueller, McCaffrey was wearing a big brace on his knee, indicating that he had a PCL reconstruction or repair.

McCaffrey is currently on injured reserve.

His injury isn’t new news, but his seemingly needing surgery could indicate that he’ll be sidelined longer than initially expected.

Through four games, McCaffrey had 202 rushing yards on 50 carries and 146 receiving yards on 15 receptions.

Christian McCaffrey Spoke Out After Injuring PCL

San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey suffered a PCL injury against the Bills and his season was ovr as he was placed on injured reserve.

The injury continues a season of misfortune for McCaffrey, who suffered Achilles tendonitis during training camp that would force him to miss the 49ers’ first eight games of the year.

He wouldn’t make his season debut until Week 10.

After hurting his PCL, McCaffrey posted the following statement on Instagram.
“Football is the greatest game on the planet to me,” he wrote. “I love that you can find out exactly who you are without ever saying a word. It lifts you up and breaks you down, and it can happen fast. It’s humbling in the best ways. You can do everything right and still fail.
“[That’s] life, and that’s football. It’s a constant test of wills and those who just keep going tend to reap the benefits of their perseverance. This wasn’t my year, and sometimes when it rains, it pours.”
