Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was nice as a basketball player in high school, and he wants everyone to know it.

There’s a debate going on over whether NFL players would do better in the NBA than NBA players would do in the NFL, so a few football players have popped up in basketball highlights recently.

Mahomes, the best quarterback in the league, looked to be on a great basketball trajectory before pursuing a football career.

Robert Griffin III found an old mix of some of Patrick’s high school basketball highlights, and it’s pretty impressive.

“I promise I was hoopin!!!” Mahomes said in a ringing endorsement.

Mahomes averaged 19.9 points in 27 outings for Whitehouse High School in Texas during the 2012-13 basketball season.

Patrick Mahomes Excelled At Three Sports

A former three-sport athlete, Patrick Mahomes told ESPN basketball was his “first love” earlier this year.

He was also a pitcher for the school’s baseball team while playing quarterback for the football team.

“I played every sport, and I found passion for a lot of them,” Mahomes told CBS’ Nick Burleson last year. “Football was probably my third-favorite sport growing up, all the way until probably my junior or senior year of high school.”

Mahomes’ former high school football coach, Adam Cook, told Yahoo Sports the NFL star was “the poster child for the multisport athlete” back in 2020

“Because he played multiple sports, the overlay of all of those experiences and skills are there in the NFL,” he said. “It’s all just one game for Patrick. It’s always been just one big game, just on different playing surfaces.”

It appears Mahomes would have had no problem fitting in as an NBA or MLB player. In fact, an MLB team drafted him in 2014.
