New Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry is paying a king’s ransom to ensure he keeps his body in prime shape as he heads into his ninth NFL season.

As most NFL fans know, running backs usually experience a steep decline by the time they turn 30. But Derrick Henry showed no signs of slowing down last year, tallying 1,167 rushing yards (second-most in football behind only Christian McCaffrey) and 12 touchdowns.

And if things go according to plan for Henry, he’ll continue to play at a high level for several more years. After all, the man is following a Superman-like diet and dropping hundreds of thousands annually to keep himself in the best possible shape.

In an interview with Dan Pompei of The Athletic, Henry detailed the insane diet he follows to maintain peak physical condition. His financial advisor, Pete Kotos, estimated to Pompei that the two-time rushing champion spends $240,000 a year on body maintenance:

“Henry’s financial adviser, Pete Kotos, estimates Henry spends $240,000 yearly on body maintenance, which includes employing a personal chef who prepares all of Henry’s meals. Henry eats no fried foods, gluten, dairy or artificial sugars.

During the season, he doesn’t eat his first meal until 4 or 5 p.m. and eats only one other meal, usually around 8 p.m. (in the offseason, his first meal is around 1 p.m.). When he does eat, he consumes nearly enough for a pride of lions.”

Derrick Henry said his first meal consists of three chicken breasts, broccoli and rice. For his his next meal, Henry said he has “some gluten-free pancakes, scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, home fries and some steak.”

Henry signed a two-year contract with Baltimore worth $16 million after spending his first eight years with the Tennessee Titans. The 2020 Offensive Player of the Year joins a Baltimore team led by the league’s best rushing quarterback in Lamar Jackson, who won his second MVP award last season.

Derrick Henry Will Have A Tough Test In Ravens Debut

Henry will play his first game with Baltimore on Sept. 5 in the NFL Kickoff Game at Arrowhead Stadium, against Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The 30-year-old running back played at Arrowhead in the 2017 AFC Wild Card Round (a 22-21 Titans upset win) and the 2019 AFC Championship Game (a 35-24 Kansas City win). Now, we’ll see if Henry can help Baltimore get some early season revenge against the team that eliminated them in last year’s AFC Championship Game.
