The Buffalo Bills are headed into a new era, having traded wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans this week.

The Bills decided to part ways with the seemingly disgruntled player on Wednesday, separating quarterback Josh Allen from his top target in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick via the Minnesota Vikings.

One would imagine that such a trade would be discussed with the franchise quarterback. However, per Ari Meirov, Bills GM Brandon Beane’s revealed Allen found out when everyone else did.

Allen had been told that the team had received inquiries for the star wideout and that a trade was possible, yet he wasn’t informed when it was actually going down.

Of course, the team didn’t need Josh’s permission to work out a trade for Diggs, but that they didn’t let him in on it seems strange. It also suggests that the relationship between the two players wasn’t great.

Stefon Diggs Was Essential To Josh Allen’s Success

The day before he was traded, Stefon Diggs implied his presence on the field was essential to Allen’s success. Some took it to mean that the WR was talking down on his QB, even if it was true.

The 30-year-old made 445 catches for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns in four seasons with the Bills. No one else made more receptions during that period, while only three other players had more yards.

It’s hard to argue that he wasn’t key to Allen’s success in the backfield.

The Bills are lacking in the wide receiver department now that he’s gone. Khalil Shakir is the top receiver left, though the team has some very capable players at tight end in Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid.

Bean is expected to find some more offensive weapons for Allen before the start of the season, with the NFL Draft also coming up. 2024 is going to be an interesting year for them in any case.
