REPORT: Chiefs Have Given Travis Kelce A Shocking Ultimatum Following His Poor Performance At Super Bowl 59 (PO)

Travis Kelce pullign his hair

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly hit Travis Kelce with an ultimatum ahead of an offseason in which he will have to make one of the biggest decisions of his life.

The star tight end was a shell of himself last season and was a non-factor in the Super Bowl 59 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, making four catches for 39 yards.

It’s been rumored that Sunday’s outing may have been his last game. He has admitted that he will take some time to consider his future, but he won’t have much of it.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Chiefs have given the player a deadline to let them know whether or not he plans to return next season.

“If Kelce chooses to retire, the Chiefs, as they head into an intriguing offseason, want to know of his decision around March 14, according to a team source,” Nate Taylor and Cale Clinton noted. “Based on the deadline, the Chiefs are going to give Kelce a month to decide his future.”

Why March 14 Is A Reasonable Deadline For Travis Kelce

The March 14 deadline does make sense, given that the new NFL year begins on March 12, which is around when Kelce should be making a decision anyway.

He is also going to be in for an $11.5 million payout if he’s still on the roster by March 15. So, of course, the Chiefs would like to know whether he will play before making such a heavy financial commitment.

Kelce may decide to call curtains on his career due to the decline in his game over the last two seasons, with injuries and surgeries having taken a toll on his body over the years.

Should he opt to leave, the Chiefs will have their work cut out for them in terms of figuring out who will be Patrick Mahomes’ preferred target moving forward.

Xavier Worthy certainly seems a premium option, but the team will need all the experience it can get.
