Mike McCarthy is unsurprisingly on the hot seat again following the Cowboys’ failure to reach the divisional round.
As such, NFL Network’s Jane Slater has revealed what she’s heard so far.
Jane, who is expected to be all over this, has said that the Cowboys didn’t want to fire McCarthy last year as he still had two years left on his contract. Jerry Jones wasn’t interested in paying out the remainder of the deal while having to bring in a new coaching staff.
The situation is different this time around as there’s only one year left on that deal.
“I have no idea, but I’d imagine all imaginable options will be discussed and wouldn’t rule out anything,” Slater said, quoting a source.
There are also questions surrounding quarterback Dak Prescott following his poor performance. While Dak passed for 403 yards and three touchdowns, around half of that yardage came with six minutes left in that game, and folks who watched would have known that any stats from that point on were meaningless.
The QB also threw a pair of interceptions in the first half, including a pick-six. Still, he’s unlikely to be cut or traded because of his contract situation although he might not be able to secure that lucrative extension he was reported to be in line for.
