Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper really wants to make his next coaching hire the best one after the franchise has cycled through two of them in two years.
Tepper may be standing in the way of his team bringing in legendary coach Jim Harbaugh to run the franchise, according to a report from WFNZ’s Travis Hancock.
“Hearing Harbaugh has interest for the second year in a row but apparently the feeling has not been mutual from the Panthers end,” Hancock tweeted.
Hancock goes on to say that “Tepper doesn’t want to give up control to Harbaugh that he will require as the HC,” and later specifies, “Control doesn’t mean full football control in this sense. It’s letting Harbaugh control things as a coach and not interfere like he tends to do. You cannot tell Harbaugh the HC what to do.”
Harbaugh hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2014, when he led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl the year before. He also made three NFC Championship games. He is a proven winner and has shown he can get it done no matter where he is.
On Monday night, Jim Harbaugh will coach in the biggest game of the college football season. He now has his Michigan Wolverines in the college football National Championship as they will take on the Washington Huskies.
His time at Michigan has been successful on the field, but a massive cheating scandal could make it come to a terrible end.
