Philadelphia Eagles legend Bill Bergey, who spent seven seasons with the franchise, has passed away.

On Christmas morning, Jake Bergey announced in an X/Twitter post that his father passed away at the age of 79 after a three-year battle with cancer. Bill Bergey had three sons with his wife, Micky, and eight grandchildren.

A star out of Arkansas State, Bergey was a second-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1969. He spent five seasons with the organization before signing with Philadelphia in the 1974 offseason.

Bill Bergey led the Eagles to a Super Bowl 15 appearance in the 1980 season, where they fell to the dynastic Oakland Raiders. He made four Pro Bowls during his tenure with the Eagles and earned First-team All-Pro nods in 1974 and ’75.

Our thoughts are with Bergey’s family and friends and the Eagles organization during this difficult time.

Bill Bergey Helped Eagles Rise In Super Bowl Era

Bergey helped the Eagles end an 18-year playoff drought in the 1978 season. That was the first of four straight postseason appearances for the Eagles, with their 1979 Wild Card Round win over Chicago marking Philly’s first playoff win since 1960.
