The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly willing to part with two superstar players in order to move up in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Currently, the San Francisco 49ers are slated to pick 31st. This marks the first year since 2021 where the 49ers hold a first-round pick, since they dealt their 2022 and 2023 first-rounders to the Miami Dolphins in order to move up and take quarterback Trey Lance third overall three years ago.

According to a report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the 49ers have spoken to teams about potentially trading star wideouts Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk “in an effort to move up in the first round.”

Aiyuk has been widely mentioned in trade rumors since the 49ers’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58. The 26-year-old is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, and there aren’t any hints that the two sides are close on an extension.

As for Samuel, he has two years remaining on the $71.55 million extension he signed in the 2022 offseason. Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers before the 2022 NFL Draft, but the two sides managed to get the deal done after lengthy back-and-forth negotiations.

San Francisco 49ers Love Wheeling And Dealing At The Draft

Since the Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch took over in 2017, the San Francisco 49ers have never been afraid to complete blockbuster trades in round one. In 2017, they dealt the No. 2 pick to the Chicago Bears, who took quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

In 2020, the 49ers acquired the No. 13 pick from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

San Francisco then traded down one spot via the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and used the No. 14 pick on Javon Kinlaw. That same year, the 49ers acquired the No. 25 pick from the Minnesota Vikings to move up six spots and select Aiyuk.
