In Rihanna’s highly-anticipated interview on Oprah’s Next Chapter last night, the 24-year-old singer couldn’t hold back tears as she opened up about her relationships with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown and her parents.
However, it wasn’t all sorrow; there were also many joyful moments and a big surprise during the hour-long show.
Rihanna surprised her beloved mother, Monica Braithwaite, by gifting her a new five-bedroom home in Barbados.

And of course, Oprah, known for surprising guests with generous gestures, was the perfect person to be part of the act.
To make the event even more exciting, Oprah invited Monica to the house under the pretense of doing an interview with her daughter for the show.
As Monica arrived at the luxurious mansion with Rihanna’s brother Rajad and her aunt, she was immediately impressed by the grandeur of the house.
As the group went outside to see the pool, Oprah told Monica that her ‘good daughter’ had a surprise.
Hugging her mother, Rihanna almost couldn’t hold back tears as she said, ‘Oh mom, I love you so much. Mom, you’re so cute.’

Looking at her daughter, Monica was both bewildered and worried.
‘Ri isn’t pregnant! Don’t say that. Oh, what is it?’ Rihanna laughed.
Before composing herself, the singer revealed to her mother, ‘I’ve wanted to do this for you for a long time. Mom, you’ve been an amazing mother, role model, warrior, and today you’re getting this.’
Looking around, shocked, Monica couldn’t help but cry out.
‘Oh my goodness, oh my goodness… Are you serious? Oh my goodness,’ she exclaimed, raising her hands to her face.
‘Yes, this is yours, girl. Look around, look at the pool,’ Rihanna said, beaming with pride.
Later, Monica realized that Oprah was the first guest in the home.
‘I have to have a picture of you on the wall. My first guest is Oprah, it’s amazing!’ she gushed.
Oprah revealed that Rihanna used her grandmother’s dishes as inspiration to decorate the living room in the stunning five-bedroom house.
After giving her mother a tour of the entire home, the family and Oprah sat down and enjoyed a glass of champagne.
Monica told Oprah what made her so proud of her daughter.
‘Because she’s always been humble and close to her family. She’s still the Robyn we know. That’s what I’m very, very proud of,’ she said.
She also revealed to the talk show host that she’s ‘not yet’ pressuring her daughter to find a new man.
The family, along with Oprah, then raised their glasses in a toast with Rihanna.
‘I want to toast to something, your first trip to my home. Now it’s her home, to her house. And to family, to good vibes, to love, to happiness, to everyone. Cheers!’ she said.
Earlier in the interview, Rihanna took Oprah to her family’s old home where she grew up from age five to sixteen, before leaving Barbados to pursue a music career.
