Russell Wilson wasted no time welcoming Justin Fields to Steel City.

On Saturday afternoon, the Steelers acquired Fields from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. If Fields plays 51 percent of the club’s offensive snaps next year, the pick will be upgraded to a fourth-rounder.

Following news of the blockbuster trade, the nine-time Pro Bowler took to social media to offer a friendly welcome to his new teammate:

The Fields trade comes days after the Steelers signed Wilson to a one-year contract. After they brought in the former Seattle Seahawk and Denver Bronco, Kenny Pickett requested and received a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles.

With Pickett gone, the Steelers needed another QB to back up Wilson, and GM Omar Khan needed little time to address that. And so, the Steelers will enter next season with an enticing Wilson-Fields tandem after using three different starting signal-callers last year in Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.

The Steelers released Trubisky, who wound up returning to the Buffalo Bills in free agency. Rudolph signed with the Tennessee Titans to back up second-year quarterback Will Levis.

Russell Wilson Gets Another Chance

Despite a stellar bounce-back season by Wilson in 2023, the Broncos decided to release him and take on $85 million in dead money over the next two years. While the Broncos figure out their next step at QB, the 35-year-old Wilson gets another chance to revive his career.

Pittsburgh quarterbacks only threw 13 touchdown passes last season. Wilson himself threw 26 on a mediocre Denver team, and Fields threw 16 despite missing 14 games. So yes, the Steelers indeed got significantly better at the game’s most important position.

Wilson won’t be short of playmakers at his disposal, either. He has star wide receiver George Pickens, tight end Pat Freiermuth and the dynamic running back tandem of Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.
