While accepting the prize for best Afrobeats category on Sunday, the 31-year-old Disney Channel alum expressed her immense gratitude to her fans and collaborator, Rema.
‘Hi Billboard, thank you guys so so so much for this award,’ the two-time Grammy nominee gushed in a pre-taped speech, released ahead of the show. ‘This is honestly REMA’s doing!’
While speaking about working with Rema, on their hit track, Calm Down, the Only Murders in the Building actress credited the Nigerian rapper, 23, for choosing her ‘to be a part of such an incredible song.’

In the recording, she beamed while proudly holding up her trophy while rocking a sleek high ponytail and glamorous makeup look, which enhanced her natural beauty.
Gomez and Rema song also received nods in four other categories, including Top Radio Song, Top Collaboration, Top Billboard Global 200 Song and Top Billboard Global 200 Song.
Taylor Swift was a major winner as she earned 10 golden microphones including highest honor Top Artist but was outdone by controversial country star Morgan Wallen who earned 11 at the new version 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday.
Taylor did defeat Wallen in the biggest category of the night Top Artist in addition to Drake, Luke Combs , and SZA .
The A-lister also earned Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Billboard Global 200 Artist, Top Billboard Global (excluding US) Artist, Top Country Female Artist, and Top Selling Song for Anti-Hero.
She was the most awarded female of the night and her 10 wins tied Drake’s record to be the most-awarded artist in Billboard Music Awards history.
In September, Gomez teased that there’s ‘not one sad song’ next album.

‘I don’t mean that in a way, like, everything is not full of meaning, because I think even the most poppy songs can have heart, and I want that to come across. But I genuinely don’t feel like I have anything in me to write something negative. It just doesn’t match with where I am anymore,’ she said during an interview for SiriusXM Hits 1.
She went on to joke that while she has loved making and listening to ‘sad girl music’ that she pivoted from the genre on her latest record.
‘I just felt this album shouldn’t be that,’ the singer explained. ‘I went through a really tough time, and it was a lot of emotional stuff going on in my head and in my life. And I just feel like it took a lot of work, and that’s therapy, and that’s surrounding yourself with good people and figuring out, who am I?’
While Gomez said she still doesn’t have it all figured out yet, the star mused about having a ‘better idea of the hot mess’ she is.

In that same interview, she discussed her love life, feeling open to finding someone special and also being content as a single woman.
‘I think everybody goes through the phase of, “Oh, it’d be nice to have someone,” and I get that. But, you know, I’m just enjoying where I’m at,’ she stated.
‘And I just want to be happy with who I am so that whenever that person comes into my life I can just have them add on to me instead of being this insecure person that I normally used to be,’ the Ice Cream singer explained.
Selena has dated Justin Bieber, Joe Jonas and The Weeknd in the past.
Anyone interested in dating the Doolittle actress has to be ‘cool.’
‘Not cool in the sense that people think you’re cool,’ she maintained.
‘You just gotta be nice and, like, please make me laugh and also just be good to my family and people around you.’
