The 30-year-old star gives fans a behind-the-scenes look into her physical and mental health struggles over a six-year period in the in her new Apple TV+ project, as well as revealing her battle with the pitfalls of fame.
Though the Rare singer doesn’t speak much about her tumultuous relationship with the Canadian pop star, one moment sees the singer sobbing over the fact her record label seemingly wanted her to release a track with her former partner.

In a moment captured during rehearsals for her 2016 Revival tour, Selena breaks down in tears and reveals she doesn’t feel like she is good enough to embark on the tour and lists multiple insecurities.
As she sobs, the Bad Liar hitmaker then reveals she is feeling even more pressure because the Interscope Geffen A&M Records Chairman and CEO, John Janick, asked her to do a song with Justin.
‘I don’t know what John thinks, I want to talk to John. I don’t want to disappoint John. I don’t want him to think that he signed some f**king Disney kid,’ she cries. ‘It just sucks too, because the whole song thing. He called me this morning about the song with Justin, like, when am I just going to be good enough by myself?’
The singer asks again: ‘When am I gonna be good just by myself, not needed anybody to be associated with?’

Selena and Justin were teenage sweethearts who began dating in 2011. The on-off couple had their last breakup in 2018, months before Justin went on to have a courthouse marriage to Hailey Baldwin.
The month after Justin married Hailey, Selena suffered a breakdown connected to her lupus and entered treatment for her mental health.

‘I text Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter and said, “I think I’m ready to just say I’m sad,”‘ she reveals. ‘We wrote the song in 45 minutes. The fastest song I’ve ever written.’
Selena continues: ‘It’s about more than a lost love. It’s me learning to choose myself, to choose life, but also hoping that people can find grace and peace in that too.
‘The song is about knowing that you completely lost every part of who you are just to rediscover yourself again.’

Reflecting on being in the public eye while navigating the trails and tribulations of love, she added: ‘Everything was so public. I felt haunted by a past relationship that no one wanted to let go of.
‘Then I just moved past it, and I wasn’t afraid anymore. I feel like I had to go through the worst possible heartbreak ever and then just forgetting everything at the drop of the hand, it was really confusing’.
Selena concluded: ‘But I just think that needed to happen and ultimately it was the best thing that ever happened to me.’

Lose You to Love Me has gone on to become one of Selena’s biggest hits after the ballad was released as the lead single from her 2020 album, Rare.
Last month, Selena proved all was well between herself, Justin and Hailey after the two women posed together at an event.
Photographer Tyrell Hampton, who captured one of the images of Hailey and Selena at the Academy Museum gala, posted it to Instagram at the time and wrote: ‘plot twist.’
