Simone Biles’ birth mother breaks cover and begs for forgiveness from daughter she abandoned
Simone Biles is an Olympics legend and a Team USA all-time great, and in the wake of the Paris Games, her birth mother has reached out in the hopes of reconnecting
Simone Biles’ birth mother Shanon has called for the Team USA legend to forgive her and reestablish a connection.
Biles departed Paris with gold medals from the team, all-around, and vault finals along with silver in the floor routine. She has 11 Olympic medals to her name, tying Czechoslovakia’s Vera Caslavska for the second-most by a female gymnast in Olympic history
In an interview , Shanon declared her hope for when Biles will reach out so she can ask her daughter for forgiveness. The 52-year-old’s struggles with drug addiction led to her needing to abandon Biles and the gymnast’s siblings.
“It was hard to give up my kids, but I had to do what I had to do,” “I wasn’t able to care for them. I was still using and [my father] didn’t want me coming in and out of their lives when I wasn’t right.
“I was hard-headed. I didn’t care, screaming, ‘I want to see my kids, why you doing this to me?’ I didn’t understand at the time but years later, I understood why. I had to deal with me first.”
Shanon’s father Ronald and wife Nellie were forced to step in when her drug and alcohol struggles accelerated, taking Biles and Adria to Texas. Shanon’s two eldest children Tevin and Ashley were taken in by Ronald’s sister Harriet in Cleveland.
Shanon remains in touch with Biles’ biological father Kevin Clemons, who lives in Cleveland and has no contact with his daughter amid his own addiction problems in the past. Shanon said: “We both want to see her. I talk to him all the time. He says, ‘If you talk to Simone, give her my number. I’d love to talk to her.’ But I can’t even talk to her. I have to go through my dad.”

Shanon added: “I want to let her know I love her and I’m very proud of her. But I’m still waiting.”
As a result of her complicated past, Shanon was not invited to attend Biles’ wedding to NFL player Jonathan Owens last season, although she speaks to Biles’ sister Adria. However, she still threw a party in the backyard of her home in Columbus, Ohio to celebrate Biles’ remarkable achievements at the Paris Olympics.
While she has Biles’ telephone number, Shanon has never called it as she believes the Olympics star must reach out first. She declared she is ready and waiting to receive a call.
