There’s no denying that Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark is a special player.
After recording her second triple-double of the season, many took to social media to rave about the unprecedented success Clark is having since the Olympic break, but former ESPN and Fox Sports personality Skip Bayless may have tweeted an all-timer.
Bayless, who’s never one to shy away from saying anything controversial, dropped the hot-takiest of hot takes when he stated that Caitlin Clark was the best No. 22 since Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith.
Of course, Bayles was promptly roasted in the comments for his what many fans seem to believe was a tone-deaf opinion.
“We [heart] Caitlin but come on Skip. You gotta relax with that one. Caitlin is Neo. She’s coming on strong. But A’ja is already there,” one fan said.
“A’ja Wilson is literally in the league,” another stated.
“Casual probably has no idea who A’ja Wilson is lol,” a third commentor said.
“Clayton Kershaw died?” another X user asked.
“Derrick Henry, old man,” one fan commented.
In addition to Wilson, Kershaw and Henry, there are several other notable athletes who’ve worn No. 22 including pitcher Roger Clemens, infielder Rickey Henderson, NHL forward Brett Hull, NBA stars Clyde Drexler, Moses Malone and Tayshaun Prince.
While Bayless may have been a bit off-base with his initial tweet, he was right with one of his follow-up messages: the Fever are the WNBA’s hottest team having won five in a row and seven of their eight games since the Olympic break.
