Matthew Stafford spent 12 years as the starting quarterback of the Detroit Lions, and there’s no doubt that he gave it his all for the city and their fans during his entire time there.

So he was probably pretty bitter about all of the boos he heard as he made his way onto the gridiron at Ford Field for Sunday’s wild card game — this time as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

Stafford was hoping to silence the crowd and deliver a big playoff win against his former team, but Jared Goff and company spoiled those plans, as the Lions held on for the 24-23 victory.

After the game, one reporter asked Stafford if he was happy for the city of Detroit for finally getting a playoff win after a long, 32 year wait. Most people probably expected Stafford to offer some sense of happiness for what the people of Motor City had just experienced…

And those people would be dead wrong.

Stafford made it clear that he was still upset about his reception from the Detroit faithful, as he made it clear that he was happy for the “players,” but not so much the fans.

Social media immediately ripped him for his “disrespectful” comments:

Yikes! Of course, there were also those fans in the comments section who were telling Stafford that this was nothing personal — and the boos were merely their way of showing support for their current starting quarterback, Jared Goff.

All in all, I doubt anyone will be losing much sleep over this.
