The 66th Grammys are over, but they came to a quick end for one person on this night.

Rapper Killer Mike was arrested after he won three Grammys in the pre-show earlier in the afternoon. Video posted on social media showed police escorting Killer Mike, his hands cuffed behind his back, through the concourse of Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Killer Mike was detained for an unspecified misdemeanor charge unrelated to the Grammy Awards.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was among many people stunned over what he was witnessing so he took to social media to speak on it:

“Yea, I’m looking forward to @FirstTake in the AM, but that ain’t on my mind right now. Riddle me this: How in the Hell does Killer Mike get taken from the Grammy’s in HANDCUFFS for an “alleged Crime” but Will Smith gets to accept his speech AND party — with no arrest — after committing one on Nat’l TV???” he wrote.

Killer Mike, real name Mike Render, was questioned for a fight he was involved in earlier in the day with Grammys security.

About five hours after he was publicly detained and arrested by Los Angeles police, the activist-entrepreneur-rapper was released.

His battery charge comes with either a potential fine of up to $2,000, six months behind bars, or both, under California’s penal code.
