The Curry family boasts strong women and their biggest supporters are undoubtedly the men in the family. “stay believing in women, and — when it comes to anyone’s expectations for women — to always stay challenging the idea of what’s right,” Stephen Curry had written in an essay on Women’s equality. Hence, it’s no coincidence that Curry’s face pops up whenever there is something related to women’s empowerment.

Be it the first-of-its-kind NBAxWNBA Three-Point Challenge or designing new sneakers, the 4x champion has his priorities straight. And for this year’s Women Empowerment Month, Stephen Curry has plans to go with the latter – new shoes. Ahead of the Warriors vs Knicks game tonight, Steph was seen warming up in pink shoes. Bay Area’s very own reporter, Kerith Burke tweeted the wholesome sight.

This isn’t the first time that ‘Chef Curry’ has designed new shoes to show his support for women. In 2018, a nine-year-old girl, Riley Morrison, brought the father of three’s attention to a vital aspect missing in Under Armour’s online store. His signature shoes were all in boys’ sizes!

Thanking little Riley for her timely reminder, he had written a handwritten note back to her, promising to correct the problem immediately. And he did. Without further delay, the Under Armour website had sneakers in unisex sizes in both girls’ and boys’ sections. A father to two girls himself (his firstborn is also named Riley), Stephen used Miss Morrison’s passion to take it a step further.

The next year, he sought her help in designing a pair of shoes for International Women’s Day. On March 8th, the UA ICON Curry 6 United We Win colorway was released. A blend of purple and deep orchid with white, the shoes featured a sock liner that Riley helped design with words that continue to inspire her.

In 2020, the Warriors superstar partnered with A Wrinkle in Time fame Storm Reid, to design another IWD sneaker. See where the inspiration comes from? But that wasn’t all he did this month though.

After De’Aaron Fox, USC superstar MiLaysia Fulwiley became the second athlete to sign with the Curry Brand. Fulwiley has taken the NCAA by storm and the latest in her list of achievements was being named the SEC Tournament MVP. MiLaysia’s dominance on the court saw the Gamecocks undefeated throughout the entirety of the 2023-24 season.

A Stephen Curry fan since childhood, the NIL contract with her idol was a dream come true. Not to mention, her connection with the Curry name is strong. Fulwiley was part of the Curry Camp, she is a Curry Team alumni and is currently playing at an Under Armour school. Nurturing dreams and empowering Stephen Curry continues to vouch for a change.
