NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver CanucksFans criticize Connor McDavid’s high stick on Carson Soucy

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid had his revenge on Vancouver’s Carson Soucy as he delivered a disturbing high-stick on the Canucks defenseman during Game 6 on Saturday.

The Canucks hosted the Oilers at Rogers Arena for Game 6 in their second-round playoff series, looking to eliminate Connor McDavid’s team. During the first period of play, McDavid caught Carson Soucy with a high-stick skating from behind close to the boards. It hit Soucy right in the face, over his helmet.

Fans were quick to react to this dangerous play from the Oilers captain. Many condemned McDavid and demanded he be suspended for the rest of the postseason.

Following are some of the fan reactions from X:

“Suspend him for the remainder of the playoffs.”

“Dirtiest player in the league, should be a lifetime suspension,” commented one fan.

“Typical connor McRat. Should be suspended twice now,” seconded another fan.

Some fans believed Connor McDavid’s high-stick on Carson Soucy was intentional. They insisted he gets away with such antics more often than not and were not pleased with the OIlers captain’s act.

“He’s used to getting away with this. He was probably shocked after the call,” wrote one user.

“He’s knows 9 times out of 10 he gets away with it,” commented another user.

One fan condemned his play and referred to McDavid’s earlier high-stick to Quinn Hughes that left the Canucks captain with a bleeding cheek.

“The high stick on Hughes earlier in the series was even more egregious, drew blood, and went uncalled.”

Carson Soucy was suspended one game after cross-checking Connor McDavid in Game 3

In the final moments of Game 3 in the same series, Connor McDavid got into an altercation with the Vancouver Canucks’ Carson Soucy. As the scuffle escalated, Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov charged at McDavid from behind, causing him to fall, and Soucy’s stick struck McDavid in the neck area.

Soucy was later suspended for one game by the NHL. The suspension was imposed because Soucy’s high stick hit McDavid in the neck, which the league considered reckless and dangerous.

Despite Zadorov’s hit contributing to McDavid’s fall, the NHL held Soucy responsible for his stick being at an inappropriate height. In addition to Soucy’s suspension, Nikita Zadorov was fined $5,000 for his involvement in the altercation.

Soucy later expressed regret for the incident, stating there was no intent to strike McDavid so high.

“There wasn’t any intent to get up there that high,” he said.

Now it remains to be seen if Connor McDavid will receive any additional penalty for his high-stick on Carson Soucy, which many believed to have been delivered on purpose.
