A unique chart battle could be in the offing as Travis and Jason Kelce’s new Christmas single raced to the top of the iTunes chart, with Taylor Swift currently top of the Billboard Hot 100 standings

Taylor Swift’s new beau Travis Kelce is more known for his football talents but the famous couple could be set for a chart battle after the Chiefs superstar released a Christmas single.

His relationship with the pop sensation Swift has captured the imaginations of music and sports fans, with their romance having blossomed since September. Now, it seems that NFL star Kelce is set to unite both camps once again after entering the studio to record a song alongside brother Jason Kelce.

The siblings united to give an adapted version of holiday classic ‘Fairytale of New York’, first recorded by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl. Now renamed ‘Fairytale of South Phily’, the brothers trade verses on what could prove to be a surprise Christmas hit for the NFL pair.

Forming part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ holiday album, it was clear that younger brother Travis did not take too much convincing when asked by his sibling to take part. In a teaser video released by the NFL, the Eagles center is seen calling up his brother and telling him that the song ‘works really good’ as a metaphor for their relationship.

Very quickly, Travis was on board and his brother seemed relieved to hear the news that he could count on the Chiefs tight end to take part as he said: “Glad you’re game, it’ll be fun,” before telling his teammates “I thought he was gonna do it!”

Now, the track has been released alongside an animated video of the two brothers performing the song. The ‘A Philly Special Christmas’ Instagram page hailing the collaboration with the caption: “Philly, are we going to let a Chief steal the show? But we are going to enjoy the newly reimagined single, Fairytale of Philadelphia by Jason & Travis Kelce.”

Incredibly, the song raced all the way to the top of the iTunes chart in the US following its unveiling, holding off music heavyweights including Dua Lipa and The Beatles. With rumored girlfriend Swift’s ‘Cruel Summer’ having topped last week’s Billboard Hot 100, a unique chart battle between the pair could be in the offing in the coming weeks.

Not everyone was convinced of the Kelce brothers’ abilities on the mic, however, and one detractor took to X to say: “Stick to your day jobs, guys…leave the singing to Taylor, lol, whereas another observer noted that Travis was starting to show different aspects of his character, asserting: “Taylor’s bringing out his musical side.”

Another Swiftie simply said: “Good job”. One fan did admit that the upcoming single does have a certain intrigue value, saying: The collaboration between Travis Kelce and Jason for the upcoming A Philly Special Christmas song adds an interesting twist.”

Another commenter was very much convinced of Kelce’s newfound singing talents and said: “He can sing too? Now that song is stuck in my head on repeat,” while one user also was hopeful that Swift could make an appearance on a track with Kelce in the future saying:” With a special appearance by Taylor?! It could happen!”
