Couldn’t have said it better myself Tony. Taylor Swift is nothing but a distraction to the Chiefs and NFL fans alike.
Sports fans are sick and tired of being force fed stories about things that are happening off the field, as opposed to what’s happening inside the white lines. That’s what makes Barstool Sports so successful. While traditional media giants like ESPN continue to flounder with their feel good stories and wall-to-wall Taylor Swift covereage, we’re over here sticking to sports.
With every crowd shot of Taylor Swift we get tonight, we’re robbed of a graphic comparing YAC of Chiefs vs. Dolphins receivers. Every time the broadcast gives a Taylor fact, we miss out on 10 seconds of wisdom from the brilliant football mind of Jason Garrett. We’re tuning in to watch a football game between 2 of the best offenseses in the NFL attempt to not die on the field in -30 degree windchill, not watch some skinny pop star funnel booze down her gullett and shouts swears all night long.
Obviously I’m being a smart ass here. I’ve never been especially bothered by the whole “Taylor Swift learns what football is” saga that’s dominated the headlines this season. I’m sure a majority of people reading this won’t agree with me. Some might ever call me a clueless anti-football pussy. But Taylor Swift has managed to entertain me more than annoy. I very much enjoyed watching Big Cat get attacked by the Swifties after he DEMANDED to see footage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce having sex. That was fun. I also can’t get enough of the stories with headlines like, “The Real Reason Travis Kelce Won’t Be At The Golden Globes This Sunday”, where people just can’t grasp the fact that Travis Kelce has a job to do. It’s all pretty harmless.
Addtionally, as a man whose job it is to get pageviews, I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t appreciate the crutch of using Taylor Swift’s name in headlines for free clicks. Which lets be honest, that’s exaclty what Tony Dungy is doing too. I know he practiced that “disenchanted” line in the mirror. He knows if he talks about Taylor Swift that he’ll get attention. If you really want her to go away, then just don’t acknowledge her. That’s the ONLY way story lines ever die. The madder people get about Taylor Swift, the more we’re going to hear about her. That’s how the internet has always worked.
