Taylor Swift affirmed that she was in a lonely state when writing the album “folklore” even though she was still dating her longtime ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

During a performance in Melbourne (Australia) as part of the Eras Tour last weekend, Taylor Swift opened up to her fans about her time writing folklore . The album was written during the quarantine period due to the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, which was also the time when Taylor and her ex-lover Joe Alwyn were still passionate.

“I imagined that, instead of being a lonely woman, covered in cat hair, drinking heavily, I was a Victorian lady wandering through the woods with a candle and I just wrote letters on parchment with a feather quill,” Taylor said of the inspiration for folklore .

“That’s my thinking. I think I look like that when I write folklore ,” the singer continued, “I don’t look like that. But that’s what’s important – the imagination.”
