‘Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood’ delves into the publicized and reportedly captivating conflict between the pop music icon and the industry titan, delving into a dispute valued at $300 million when Braun acquired the rights to purchase and distribute Taylor Swift’s first six albums in 2019, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Since then, the songstress has been forced to re-record and re-release each album under the moniker “Taylor’s Versions,” albums that propelled her to global stardom.

The documentary, consisting of two two-hour parts produced by Optomen, portrays the aftermath for both parties following music magnate Scooter Braun (42) acquiring the rights to Taylor Swift’s (34) first six albums. In 2020, Braun unilaterally sold these rights to the private company Shamrock Holdings for $300 million without Swift’s consent.

The film presents the contrasting perspectives of the dispute. The first part focuses on Taylor Swift’s viewpoint: “The acquisition took place without my consent, and as a result, I was prevented from reclaiming ownership of my own albums.” The remainder concentrates on Braun’s counterclaims: “Swift refused negotiations and instead incited public enmity by rallying her fan base against the producer.”

Audiences will be provided a “comprehensive” examination of the conflict, the complexities of music ownership rights, gender discrimination in the industry, and the influence of fan power.

The series also features contributions from legal experts, journalists, and individuals closely associated with Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun.

Charlotte Reid, Vice President of Streaming for Warner Bros. Discovery UK & Ireland, stated: “Taylor Swift’s dispute with Scooter Braun over her music ownership rights has become a widely discussed issue, elevating contracts from the boardroom to social media and capturing public interest. It’s a standout, attention-grabbing story that opens up fan debate. The story will resonate with the viewing audience.”

‘Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood’ is set to premiere on the Discovery+ channel in June 2024.
