When Travis Kelce celebrated his birthday on Saturday, his girlfriend Taylor Swift was noticeably absent from his Kelce Car Jar birthday event. The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end didn’t provide an explanation for the no-show of his partner, but he did mention that the pop star plans to watch their Week 5 game on Monday Night Football.

While there were some who speculated that there could be trouble brewing in their relationship—especially after Swift also missed the Chiefs’ Weeks 3 and 4 games—latest reports indicate that’s not the case at all.

Swift, aside from her really busy schedule, has an absolutely valid reason for missing Kelce’s birthday event: her grandmother.

According to Marca, Swift wasn’t able to make it to Kelce’s birthday celebration because she has prior family commitments. October 5 also happens to be the birthday of Swift’s late maternal grandmother, Marjorie Finlay.

“Kelce explained that Swift had family commitments on October 5, celebrating her grandmother’s birthday, which coincidentally falls on the same day as his,” the Marca report highlighted.

A Hello! Magazine report confirmed the birth date of Finlay, while also highlighting the relationship Swift had with her grandmother. Apparently, Finlay—who was a popular opera singer and TV personality—inspired Swift to pursue a career in music.

Taylor Swift has yet to publicly address her decision to skip Travis Kelce’s birthday. Regardless of whether she speaks about it or not, it seems fans can be assured that Swift and her Chiefs boyfriend are in good terms.
